Andrew Dudley Smith (28) is the third son of George and Edith May.

 

He was born on 7th August, 1947 in St John’s Nursing Home on the Broomfield Road, Chelmsford, Essex.

 

He was educated in Felsted – firstly at the State Primary followed by the Prep and Felsted School.

 

In later life he obtained an Open University BA in Social Science and Masters from the University of York in Computing.

 

 

 

He served as an RAF pilot; worked as a National Farmers’ Union employee in various parts of the country, finishing as Regional Director for the North East of England. He spent time in Hong Kong as the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Aircrew Officers’ Association. Latterly he volunteered as a advisor with the Citizens’ Advice Bureau whilst making a living dealing in and letting property.

 

 

 

He married, on 16th May, 1970 at St Andrew’s Church, Bishopthorpe,York, to Susan Elizabeth Christine Harrison, born in York on 26th October, 1946, the only child of Wing Commander William Arthur Harrison and May Gates Brown.

 

 

 

 

 

Susan has spent much of her married life as a volunteer with several charities, particularly the Riding for the Disabled Association and the York Gild of Freemen.

 

She is  seen here after being awarded an MBE for her charity work in the New Year Honours 2011.
