Cyril Grove Smith (20) was born 4th February, 1903 in Chignal, Essex.

 

 

He was living at Fairstead Lodge Farm, Witham, Essex when he was an 8 years old schoolboy.

Cyril moved to Hubbards Farm, Shalford, Essex.

 

He married Vera May Blake (23) on 25th April, 1929 at the Congregational Church, Felsted, Essex.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Vera was born in Little Hallingbury, near Bishops Stortford in 1907.

 

 

 

Her parents were :

Stephen E (born 1870 ) and  Ada T (born 1876)  Blake

 

Cyril Smith keeps an eye on Elsie Peacock, a Land Army Girl during the Second World War.

 

Vera died 18th November, 2004 and is buried at St Andrew’s Church, Shalford Green, Essex.

In later life Cyril travelled widely as witness this listing of his berth on board SS Venus, Bergen Steamship Company in 1953

 

 

 

Cyril died in July, 1992 in Braintree, Essex.
