Ernest Pemberton Barnes (123) was born on 12th February, 1885 in Havering-atte-Bower, Essex.

 

His youth followed the same pattern as above – Hastings, St Leonard’s and The Hall at Havering.

 

At age 16 he was a boarding student at Brighton College, Brighton Park, Sussex.

 

In 1881 he described himself as a Solicitor’s articled clerk.

 

A change took place and in 1891,1901 and 1911 when he described himself as a Bacon Dryer.

 

He did attend Trinity College, Cambridge where he was admitted on 24th September, 1874 as a pensioner[Andrew Du1] .

Ernest died on 29th September, 1920 at Rossmore, Battle in Sussex.

 

Ernest never married and it is apparent that he suffered mental problems throughout his life spending his last years in secure accommodation in Rossmore.
