Richard George Smith (26) was the eldest son of George Smith and Edith May Plumbley.

 

 

He was born on St SwithinÕs day – 15th July 1938.

 

He was educated at Gosfield School, near Halstead in Essex and at the Agricultural College, Writtle, Essex.

 

He was conscripted for National Service and served for two years in the Royal Artillery learning to be a tank driver.

After National Service Richard returned to Glandfields Farm, Felsted where he was to work for the remainder of his life.

 

He married Phillippa Jill Rowe (586) in 1963 at the Church of the Holy Cross, Felsted.

Jill, born in 1937, is the daughter of Jack and Prudence Rowe who farmed at North End Place, Felsted after emigrating to Essex from Cornwall.

They have lived in Potash Farm, Cobblers Green, Felsted for most of their married lives.

Richard George Smith died on14th May, 2014 having suffered with asbestosis mesothelioma for about five years.
